This magic lantern with film transport mechanism was made by the German toy manufacturer Jean Schoenner. The company started in 1875 with the production of magic lanterns. The lanterns can be identified by the initials JS (Jean Schoenner) or SN (Schoenner Nurnburg). De mooi vormgegeven lantaarn is zo goed als compleet. Er ontbreekt enkel een klein rolletje waar de film op werd gerold. De oliebrander is nog wel aanwezig. De originele houten doos is er ook nog bij (in een niet al te beste staat) en daarin bevinden zich enkele lantaarnplaatjes (ook mechanische) en filmrolletjes in hun blikken doosjes.De lantaarn kon zowel gebruikt worden als filmprojector en als gewone glasplaatprojector. Afhankelijk van wat je wilde projecteren kon je het juiste voorzetstuk monteren (beide stukken zijn aanwezig, zie ook foto).
Het transportmechanisme voor de film gebeurd via een 'maltees kruis'-systeem. De aandrijving gebeurd via een groot wiel dat aan het lamphuis zelf is bevestigd.
The beautifully decorated lantern is almost complete. It lacks only a small roll where the film was rolled on. The oil burner is still present. The original wooden box is also present (not in a very good state). It came with some lantern slides (also mechanical ones) and rolls of film in their original tin boxes.
The lantern could be used both as a film projector and projector for glass slides. Depending on what you wanted to project you could mount the correct frontpiece (both pieces are present, see picture).
The transport mechanism for the film is a Maltese cross-system, that could be activated by a kranck on the side of the lantern.
Het model heeft de naam 'Kinematoscope' meegekregen en werd hoogst waarschijnlijk ergens tussen 1900 en 1905 vervaardigd. Aangezien de instructies in de doos Engelstalig zijn, vermoed ik dat deze projector bestemd was voor de Engelse markt.
The model has been given the name 'Kinematoscope' and was probably produced somewhere between 1900 and 1905. Because the instructions on the box lid are in English, I suspect that this projector was made for the English market.
